Why Our Certifications Matter to You

When you choose a fire or security company, the quality of the work is invisible until something goes wrong. Certifications change that. They provide independently verified evidence that the company you are hiring meets a nationally recognised standard, that its engineers are properly trained, and that its installations will be accepted by your insurer, your regulator, and your local authority.

GMSE holds certifications and memberships across fire protection, security systems, gate automation, quality management, and cyber security. Each one is independently assessed and regularly renewed — they are not self-declared, and they cannot be purchased.

  • Insurance Recognition

Most UK home and business insurance policies specifically recognise systems installed by certified companies. Choosing a certified installer can contribute to a reduction in your premium and ensures your system will be accepted in the event of a claim.

  • Regulatory Compliance

Certification bodies assess their members against nationally recognised standards. A certified installation provides documented evidence of compliance for audits, licensing inspections, and regulatory enquiries.

  • Peace of Mind

When a certified engineer installs your system, you know it has been done correctly, to the right standard, the first time. That is what certification is for.

GMSE Fire & Security are BAFE certified

BAFE: British Approvals for Fire Equipment

Verify on the BAFE register →

BAFE is the independent registration body for third-party certified fire protection companies in the UK. GMSE holds BAFE SP203-1 certification, which covers the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems.

What this means for you:

BAFE certification is not self-declared. Our fire alarm engineers are independently assessed against a nationally recognised standard and regularly audited to confirm ongoing compliance. This matters for three reasons:

Insurance: Many commercial insurers specifically require or prefer BAFE-certified companies for fire alarm installation and maintenance. Our certification provides the documentation your insurer needs.

Regulatory Acceptance: A BAFE-certified fire risk assessment or installation is recognised by the Fire and Rescue Authority and local authority licensing teams as evidence of competent, compliant work.

GMSE Fire & Security are SSAIB certified

SSAIB: Security Systems & Alarms Inspection Board

Verify on the SSAIB register →

SSAIB is one of the UK's leading certification bodies for security systems installers. GMSE holds SSAIB certification for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of intruder alarm systems, and access control systems.

What this means for you:

SSAIB certification is recognised by the majority of UK home and business insurers as confirmation that an alarm system meets the standard required for insurance purposes. In practical terms, this means:

Insurance Discounts: An SSAIB-certified alarm system installed by an SSAIB-certified company can qualify you for a reduction in your home or business insurance premium. Check your policy documents or speak to your insurer to confirm the saving available.

Police Response: Monitored alarm systems installed by SSAIB-certified companies are more likely to qualify for police response in the event of an activation, subject to the relevant force's policy.

Verified Standard: SSAIB certification is independently assessed and regularly renewed. Our engineers are audited against the standard on an ongoing basis, not just at the point of initial certification.

GMSE Fire & Security are Gate Safe certified

Gate Safe: Automated Gate Safety Certification

Verify on the Gate Safe register →

Gate Safe is the industry's primary safety standard for automated gate installation in the UK. GMSE is a Gate Safe certified installer, meaning our gate automation installations meet the safety requirements set out in BS EN 13241, the standard governing powered gates and barriers.

What this means for you:

Automated gates can cause serious injury or death if incorrectly installed or maintained. Gate Safe certification exists to protect both the people who use automated gates and the owners who are responsible for them.

Safety Compliance: Gate Safe certified installations meet the force and safety edge requirements set out in BS EN 13241. Every installation is tested and documented, confirming the gate operates within safe parameters.

Personal Liability Protection: If an automated gate causes injury to a person or animal, the gate owner can be held personally liable. A Gate Safe certified installation provides documented evidence of due diligence, which is essential protection in the event of a legal claim.

Insurance: Some insurers require evidence of Gate Safe certified installation for automated gates on insured premises. Our certification documentation satisfies this requirement.

GMSE Fire & Security are FIA certified

FIA: Fire Industry Association

Verify on the FIA register →

The Fire Industry Association is the UK's largest trade association for the fire protection industry. GMSE is an FIA member, demonstrating our commitment to professional standards, ongoing training, and best practice across the fire protection sector.

What this means for you:

FIA membership is not a certification in the same way as BAFE or SSAIB, but it carries significant weight as a mark of professional standing within the fire industry.

Industry Standards: FIA members commit to upholding the association's code of conduct and professional standards. Membership signals that GMSE operates as a responsible, professionally engaged fire protection company.

Technical Knowledge: FIA membership gives our engineers access to the latest technical guidance, legislative updates, and industry training, ensuring our knowledge remains current as standards and regulations evolve.

Industry Representation: The FIA represents its members in dialogue with government, regulators, and standards bodies. As an FIA member, GMSE contributes to and benefits from the ongoing development of fire safety standards in the UK.

ISO 9001 & ISO 27001: Quality & Information Security Management

  • ISO 9001

    ISO 9001

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. GMSE's ISO 9001 certification confirms that our business processes, installation procedures, and customer service standards are independently assessed and meet the requirements of the standard.

What this means for you: consistent quality across every installation, a structured approach to identifying and resolving issues, and documented processes that ensure the same high standard of work regardless of which engineer attends your site.

  • ISO 27001

    ISO 27001

ISO 27001 is the internationally recognised standard for information security management. For a company that installs and maintains CCTV systems, access control, and monitored alarms, the security of the data we handle is a genuine and important responsibility.

What this means for you: your personal data, site access information, and CCTV footage management are handled in line with a certified information security framework. This is particularly relevant for commercial clients with GDPR obligations around CCTV and access control data.

GMSE Fire & Security are Cyber Essentials certified

Cyber Essentials: Government-Backed Cyber Security Certification

Visit the Cyber Essentials Security Centre →

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed certification scheme that helps organisations protect themselves against the most common cyber security threats. GMSE holds Cyber Essentials certification, confirming that our IT systems and business processes meet the baseline security standard set by the National Cyber Security Centre.

What this means for you:

Modern fire and security systems are increasingly connected, with remote access via apps, cloud storage, and network-connected cameras and alarm panels. The cyber security of these systems is a genuine and growing concern for both residential and commercial clients.

Protected Business Systems — Cyber Essentials certification confirms that GMSE's own IT systems are protected against common cyber threats, reducing the risk of a data breach affecting client information or system access credentials.

Supply Chain Confidence — Many larger organisations and public sector bodies require their suppliers to hold Cyber Essentials certification as a condition of contract. Our certification demonstrates that we meet this requirement.

Responsible Data Handling — For commercial clients with GDPR obligations around CCTV and access control data, working with a Cyber Essentials certified installer provides an additional layer of assurance around the security of the systems we install and maintain.

Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce & SafeContractor

  • Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce

    Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce

The Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest and most active business membership organisations in the South East. GMSE's membership reflects our commitment to the Kent business community and our standing as a reputable, established local company.

What this means for you: Chamber membership is a mark of local business credibility. It signals that GMSE is a genuine, established presence in Kent, actively engaged with the local business community rather than a transient contractor with no local roots.

  • SafeContractor

    SafeContractor

SafeContractor is a leading health and safety assessment scheme widely used by facilities managers, procurement teams, and larger organisations to verify that contractors meet the required health and safety standards before being approved to work on their premises.

What this means for you: if your organisation requires contractors to hold SafeContractor approval before attending your site, GMSE already meets that requirement. Our SafeContractor status confirms that our health and safety policies, procedures, and practices have been independently assessed and approved.
